\n\tHateAid strengthens democracy in digital space.<\/h2>[vc_column_text]We\u2019re here to make the digital world a positive place for everyone. Regardless of gender, origin, religious belief and much more. To this end, we aim first and foremost at strengthening democratic values.<\/span><\/p>\n

By providing direct counselling<\/span><\/a> and<\/span> legal support<\/span><\/a> in cases of digital violence<\/span>, by raising awareness of problems in politics and society and by providing specific solutions<\/a> for a better coexistence.<\/p>\n

\n\tHateAid was founded in the conviction that everyone has the right to freely express themselves on the internet. Hate, violence and systematic disinformation are putting pressure on our freedom of speech in digital space. Digital violence affects us all<\/span><\/span><\/h4>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Society can only be as free as its smallest constituents. And if individuals no longer dare to express their opinions without restraint, our society is damaged. <\/span><\/p>\n

Many remain silent these days for fear of hate<\/span><\/b>. Particularly those who also experience discrimination in other areas of everyday life, and who are even more affected if they take a stand on the internet, while those who scream the loudest and are the most insulting get all the attention.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is where HateAid steps in.<\/span> All those affected who don\u2019t spread digital violence themselves can turn to HateAid.<\/span><\/b> If they wish, they can first receive an emotionally stabilising<\/span> initial counselling session.<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0If necessary, there can be further consultations with trained counsellors. All this is free of charge and without obligation. In selected cases we support victims in <\/span>enforcing their legal claims<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]But this is not enough:<\/span> We want to sustainably improve the conditions for people affected by digital violence<\/span><\/b>. To this end, we inform politics, the judiciary and business <\/span>about online hate<\/span>, and develop specific solutions to<\/span> strengthen basic democratic values in digital space<\/span><\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the societal level, we actively oppose online violence. With campaigns, petitions and specific actions, we encourage people to speak up for a society that lives democracy in all its aspects. We work together with <\/span>the media<\/strong> and the internet public to make visible what drives us. Digital violence<\/span> from various perspectives<\/span><\/span><\/h4>\n

[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/6″][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row row_content_width=”grid” css=”.vc_custom_1668418504962{margin-bottom: 50px !important;}”][vc_column width=”1\/3″][vc_single_image image=”36051″ img_size=”full” onclick=”custom_link” link=”https:\/\/hateaid.org\/transparenzbericht\/”][vc_column_text]HateAid associates Gerald Hensel, Anna-Lena von Hodenberg und Astrid Deilmann<\/strong>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”2\/3″][vc_column_text]HateAid was the idea of several key players<\/span><\/b> who had for a long time individually campaigned against online hate.<\/span> In 2018, this developed into HateAid gGmbH<\/span><\/b>, an organisation that has substantially changed the attitude to digital violence in Germany.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

Our<\/span> co-founders from Fearless Democracy e.V.<\/span><\/b> had been exposed to extensive hate themselves, simply because they had taken a stance on political and social positions online. That there is far too little support, and that digital violence can severely disrupt freedom of speech in the public sphere, were key insights for them. In order to create something with a lasting effect against digital violence, they found like-minded people in the <\/span>citizens\u2019 movement Campact e.V.<\/span><\/b>, a<\/span> lawyer committed to combating right-wing violence<\/span><\/b> and Anna-Lena von Hodenberg as founding CEO<\/span><\/b>. Initially, HateAid was focusing on consulation and law enforcement, but its activities quickly expanded to include political work and campaigning against digital violence. <\/span><\/p>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”5px”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row row_content_width=”grid” css=”.vc_custom_1668420606179{margin-bottom: 50px !important;}”][vc_column width=”5\/6″][vc_column_text]Anna-Lena von Hodenberg became the driving force within the organisation. A professional television journalist, she had passionately dedicated herself to the fight against hate speech as a campaigner at Campact. <\/span>With HateAid she can now even more intensely pursue the protection of diversity of opinion on the internet<\/b> \u2013 a project close to her heart. As CEO at HateAid she received the \u201cDigital Female Leader Award\u201d in the \u201cSocial Hero\u201d category (2020), she is one of the \u201cHelden und Heldinnen \u201821\u201d (The Pioneer, 2021), an \u201cAshoka Fellow\u201d (2021), and was honoured among the \u201cTop 40 under 40\u201d (Capital Magazin, 2021) as well as the \u201c40 over 40 \u2013 Germany\u2019s most inspiring women\u201d (Female One Zero, 2022).<\/span> [\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Anna-Lena von Hodenberg is joined by CEO Josephine Ballon who has been the legal voice of HateAid since 2019 and, in her position as Head of Legal, has sharpened HateAid’s idea of legal innovation<\/strong> and initiated important landmark cases. In this way, the dual leadership of the Executive Board will continue to develop our organisation.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=””]But the really important things can only be achieved as a team<\/span><\/b> \u2013 and that\u2019s how it is for HateAid. Funding, donations<\/span>,<\/span> the solidarity principle and sponsoring<\/span> \u2013 this is how we finance ourselves.<\/span><\/span><\/h4>\n

In our <\/span><\/span>current transparency report<\/span><\/span><\/a> (only available in German) you will find all the important information about our organisation.<\/span><\/span><\/strong>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space height=”25px”][vc_column_text css=””]The report shows:<\/strong> HateAid is primarily funded through private and public grants (see below). However, our organisation relies on unrestricted donations to act quickly and without bureaucracy.<\/p>\n

Important to know: We use public funding exclusively for our counseling services<\/strong> for affected individuals. These funds are not used to cover the costs of legal proceedings.<\/p>\n

To finance legal expenses<\/a>, we use our Justice Fund<\/strong>. Through this program, This is to cover high legal and court fees in eligible cases \u2013 enabling affected individuals to assert their rights, regardless of their financial means.<\/p>\n

The fund operates on a principle of solidarity: if a case is successfully concluded and a monetary compensation is awarded, the amount flows back into the fund and will be available for future cases.<\/p>\n
